Supporting International Students 

Our Master’s International Direct route gives you direct access into your degree program with additional support in the first term. Apply by submitting your transcripts and English Language Test score—no GRE/GMAT, Letters of Recommendation or Statement of Purpose are needed. Explore our Master's International Direct offerings:

Graduate Pathway

Our Graduate Pathways allow you to begin earning credits toward your degree even if you do not meet the academic and English requirements for direct entry. The program will help build the academic foundation and essential English language skills you need to succeed in your master’s degree.

The Graduate Pathway program is designed for international students who:

  • Require additional preparation to be admitted directly to the Graduate School
  • Fall short of meeting the minimum GPA or test score requirements
  • Need further English development
  • Need to improve study skills for success in their chosen field of study 

Oregon State University offers more than 90 graduate degree programs across 11 colleges. Some programs provide a choice between a thesis and a non-thesis track.

Non-Thesis Option


Focus: Coursework- or project-based.

Entry: Benchmark admissions. If you meet the requirements, you are guaranteed an offer

Requirement: Instead of a thesis, you complete a capstone project, internship or a comprehensive exam.

Typical Degrees: Master of Engineering (MEng), Professional Science Masters (PSM), Master of Science in Business (MSB) 

Career Fit: Great if you want to work in industry, government, or other professional practice after graduation and are interested in internships and Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Thesis Option


Focus: Research-intensive.

Entry: Competitive entry selected on holistic review. Limited spots available

Requirement: You conduct original research, write a thesis and defend it before a faculty committee.

Typical Degrees: Master of Science (MS) 

Career Fit: Best if you want to go on to a PhD, research career or academic position.
