English Test Scores

 

Undergraduate English Language Proficiency Requirements

Students who completed a significant amount of their education in a country outside the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, English-speaking Canada, or New Zealand, might be asked to submit English proficiency test scores. The tests must have been taken within the last two years from the term you are applying for.

OSU accepts the following language tests and minimum scores:

TOEFL iBT: 80 (subsection scores must be 16)

IELTS: 6.5

Duolingo: 110

If you have taken another language test score and would like to see if we can accept it, please contact us at [email protected].

OSU also offers waivers for the English language proficiency test with the following results:

SAT: Evidence based reading/writing score of 560

ACTE : 21

IB Diploma: Language and Literature HL with a minimum score of 5

AP English: Language and Composition with a minimum score of 3

  • Completion of two or more full-time semesters/quarters with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, in a rigorous program in the U.S. or from one of the following English speaking countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, and United Kingdom.
  • Completion of two transferrable English composition courses with grades C- or better, or one English composition and one speech communication course with grades C- or better, all from a U.S. university. 
  • IGCSE O or A Level English with a grade of C or better (provisional results are not accepted).
