If it is determined that you are admissible to Oregon State University, OSU can provide you with an I-20 (F-1) or DS-2019 (J-1) only after you submit satisfactory evidence that you have adequate funds for your proposed program of study.
Acceptable financial documents must have been issued (by the financial institution) within 6 months of the date the student confirms their enrollment with the Affidavit of Support (below) if necessary.
Please refer to program prices for financial amounts required to be shown at time of application for each program.
Be sure to keep copies of your financial documents as you will need to present them to the US Consular Officer at your visa interview and to the US Immigration Officers at the Port of Entry.
|Example Sources of Funding and Required Documentation (copies of documentation are accepted)|
|Source of Funding||Required Documentation|
|Personal bank statement (checking/savings)||
Certified bank letter/bank statement
|Parent(s)/Personal sponsor(s)||Affidavit of Support and certified bank letter/statement|
|Government agency||Letter of award/sponsorship|
The following documents are not acceptable for proof of funding: stock holdings, life insurance policies, employment letters credit lines, and mortgages. Please note US visa regulations restrict student employment, and therefore, it is important not to rely on employment for income to offset your educational expenses.
Spouses, relatives, and other personal sponsors are required to complete the “Affidavit of Support” form when funds held in their name are provided as financial documentation by an international student at time of application. The affidavit of support helps confirm the legitimacy of financial documentation presented by the student. Click here to download the Affidavit of Support form.
Financial documents should be sent as an attachment to email@example.com. Please include your full name, birth date and inquiry ID# (begins with IN:E).
